Recording starts tomorrow

We start recording The Canoe Boys documentaries on Friday 15th June spending roughly two days on each programme. If you see us PLEASE come and say hello, especially if you have a something to contribute.

We're basing ourselves in Oban for two nights. Friday will be spent sorting the recording gear and speaking to some contributors near the Bridge over the Atlantic.

On Saturday we'll record the Dorus Mor section. We're also filming this section for BBC-2 Scotland's Adventure Show so that'll probably take most of the day. Saturday evening, we hope to hear from a few people at the Inn of the Trousers. Two contibutors to these programmes will be recorded later.

Sunday will see us paddling out of Oban towards Mull where we hope to hook up with the MacLean clan gathering. There were just 10 MacLean's in the Mull phone book when the orginal Canoe Boys came through in 1934 - how many are there now?

On Mull we'll be based in Salen for two nights. Back in 1934 Tobermory was already giving itself over to tourism. Has that strategy paid off? To what cost? We're trying to meet up with a few people who can give perspective on this on Monday. Cailean and I will also head off to find a particular landmark which had a special place in the Canoe Boys story.

Weather permitting, Tuesday will see us attempting to round Ardnamurchan Point. I've done this paddle twice previously, once with Cailean.

So if you see us on the water or on land, please come and say "hello". We'd like to meet you.
